Charlii Says...My UCA Essay!!!

“On a desert island the pigeon post will bring only one publication each month. Which one would you chose and why?”

I would chose the guardian , although being on my own island means that current affairs will not affect me, It will give me a sense of belonging, that I am part of a network of people, when I feel alone and keep me in touch with westernized society. The guardian is one of the last newspapers that delivers the facts, unlike tabloids which will have you believe almost anything. Arthur Miller was once quoted saying “ A good newspaper, I suppose, is a nation talking to itself”. the guardian offers many topics of conversation, and would appeal to me on a cultural and lifestyle note.

The idea of lying under the stars on the sandy beach with no land to be seen for miles and having a camp fire in the background accompanied by a symphony of waves, sounds quite ideal. Almost enchanting, but to have the pigeon post as my only form of communication with the outside world would make me feel like Harry
Potter in Hogwarts, the island being my own personal euphoria.

The guardian may seem like an unorthodox decision for one publication a month, when it is released daily, but It is not essential for me to know what’s going on in the world all the time. Once a month is enough to keep me informed, the bulk of the newspaper would also make good fuel for the fire. It is not only informative, but practical as well. I could never bring myself to burn a vogue, no matter how much my survival depends on it. The guardian will keep me informed on currents trends, without the painful stigma attached when being used for the fire.

You’re most probably wondering why I would possibly need to know current fashion trends on a desert island, but it is important to look the part when I am rescued, hopefully by a Mr Darcy type character. And knowing the current affairs will help me slot back into society as quickly as possible. It is important to be both stylish and informed in my opinion, I am both.

Charlii Says...Holly Fulton

This collection was definitely the highlight of London Fashion Week for me. The runway was adorned with retro chic pencil skirts, architectural jackets and studded loafers.

Holly Fulton presents us with a fusion of the 60’s and futuristic Ideas. These contemporary pieces prove that although Holly Fulton may be a new-comer to fashion, she definitely knows her stuff. The collection is quite monotonous with hints of colours, accessorized with chunky cuffs, large printed clutches and deco clasps. Not many accessories are needed as the skyscrapers are embellished with crystals.

How to wear:

These ultra-trendy pieces are only suited on slender body types, as the material and cut will not sit well on curves. The geometric prints and bright yellows will also draw attention to any bulge. The short cut of the dresses will elongate legs, so make sure your tan is perfect.
